Haiti Gang Violence Escalates as Viv Ansanm Attack Leaves More Than 30 Dead
Over 30 deaths have resulted from the strong Viv Ansanm gang alliance, which has attacked a farm community in Kenscoff located south of the Haitian capital. They burnt down houses and a church as well as creating widespread chaos. This attack is aimed at a strategic location with a good view of routes leading to the capital city and amid plans for the country’s first general elections in over a decade. However, the increasing gang violence in the country, which has led to the control of nearly 70% of the capital city and displacement of 1.5 million people throughout the country, makes organizing these elections very difficult.
